The state of Ohio has restrictions on what can be reported in a background screening report beyond what the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) dictates.
Restriction | Explanation |

Information on report must be relevant to job | Any conviction used to make a hiring decision must bear a direct and substantial relationship to the position sought. See the statute here for more information. |
Ban the Box: State Public Employees | Per an administrative policy, effective June 1, 2015, the Department of Administrative Services removed questions about conviction and arrest history from the initial application for state employment. See the statute here for more information. |
Use or inquiry of sealed, expunged, pardoned or erased records | Applicant may not be questioned about sealed convictions. See the statute here for more information. |
